Acceptance and Form I-20:
– Receive Form I-20 from your Designated School Official (DSO) upon acceptance.
– Ensure you and your DSO sign the Form I-20 (parents must sign if under 18).
– Obtain Form I-20 for any eligible dependents.
Paying the I-901 SEVIS Fee:
– Use Form I-20 to pay the mandatory I-901 SEVIS Fee before entering the U.S.
Applying for a Nonimmigrant Visa:
– Verify Form I-20 lists your program start date.
– Apply for F-1 or M-1 visa up to 365 days in advance.
– Ensure visa type matches Form I-20 type.
– Bring original Form I-20 to visa interview.
Entering the United States:
– Have signed Form I-20 ready at port of entry.
– Arrive up to 30 days before start date on Form I-20.
Applying for Benefits:
– Use Form I-20 to apply for benefits like a driver’s license or social security number.
Updated Form I-20 Requirements:
– Use the redesigned Form I-20 (required since July 1, 2016).
– Ensure old version with barcode is not used.
